Playing the guitar doesn’t have to be difficult. Don’t start out trying to play your favorite song; you’ll get frustrated and think you have no talent for playing. This isn’t true. Playing the guitar takes some patience and even if you do pick it up quickly, give yourself the time to learn the basics before trying to play that one song. If you do, you’ll find that learning difficult songs is a breeze and you’ll be able to impress your family and friends with your skill.

Think about all the guitar players you know and admire. They didn’t learn how to play in a week. They took some time to study the instrument, learn how it works, learn how music works and worked on the proper motor skills and coordination in their hands and fingers to put it all together. You can to by practicing for a short time each day and consistently education yourself on music and the intricacies of the guitar itself.

So how do you start playing the guitar? Learn some basic chords. Most of the songs you hear on the radio today – whether it’s rock, country or some other style – are played with the basic chords. Most rock songs are built off of three to four chords. If you learn how to play these basic chords and get them down, you’ll be able to play some of the songs you hear on the radio within a month.

You also need to make sure that you are strumming the strings correctly once you get the chords down pat. Strumming can be a little more difficult because of the rhythm you need to keep. For this, consider purchasing a metronome to help you learn how rhythm and strumming go hand in hand. Then you’ll be able to strum properly as you chord and turn the music you are making into a song everyone can sing along with.

Once you learn how to play the guitar, it will stick with you for the rest of your life. You will be able to enjoy endless hours of making music and sharing it with your friends and family.
